I'm a journalist investigating the role of “cellular intelligence” in evolutionary biology. Recent findings suggest that cells exhibit a range of cognitive behaviors, including problem-solving, decision making, memory and communication.
Is there a way to accommodate cellular intelligence as an important mechanism within mainstream evolutionary theory, or does it challenge the existing framework, the modern synthesis?
I would love expert insight on whether this concept can be integrated into evolutionary explanations, or if it requires a fundamental shift in how we understand evolutionary processes.
Requirements:
Evolutionary biologists, systems biologists, or researchers working at the intersection of cell biology and evolutionary theory.
Much appreciated!
