Gastroenterologists:
1) Generally speaking, how might lifestyle, hydration and nutrition be important for diarrhea management? (We’ll get into details later–this is just for the intro).
2) Broadly and briefly, what’s the role of hydration in diarrhea management? Are all beverages created equal in this context?
3) What kinds of beverages are best to consume for diarrhea management and, briefly, why?
4) What types of herbal tea might help soothe diarrhea or accompanying symptoms, according to research?
5) Why might caffeine or alcohol be ill-advised for people with diarrhea? Is it correct that beverages with high-fructose corn syrup is also a poor choice? If so, why is that?
6) Should people avoid drinks with sugar (or specific types of sugar) and why/why not? (Asking because Cleveland Clinic notes salt can help reduce fluid retention and sugar may help the body absorb salt, yet there’s advice to avoid high-fructose corn syrup, which may be confusing).
7) In the existing article, we also advise people not to drink fluids at extreme temperatures and to dilute water with fruit juice. Besides these (and the ones listed above), what’s another do or don’t you’d recommend regarding hydration and diarrhea management? Please briefly explain why you recommend it.
